"When I’m ready to make a photograph, I think I quite obviously see in my minds eye something that is not literally there in the true meaning of the word. I’m interested in something which is built up from within, rather than just extracted from without." Ansel Adams
My courses in Creative Photography are no longer offered through St. Lawrence College, Kingston. A few higher level courses, along with individual tutorials, are offered at my home. A first level course focuses on getting to know and work with your slr (or advanced hybrid) camera; subsequent courses concentrate on becoming aware of your own responses to your world and learning to use the camera as your tool to creatively express what you see and feel. In other words, each student’s perspective is unique and valuable, and my job is to help each one to use the photographic tools appropriately to best express their vision.
Our classes are always held in a context of safe exploration and sharing of work, creating a community of learning and friendship. The students provide me with great inspiration and delight in seeing them learn to trust and follow their own creativity.
Currently, starting May 10, 2017, I am teaching the following course:
Find and Following your Creative Vision in Photography
Dates: 6:45pm Wednesdays May 10-31, plus one Sunday afternoon photoshoot. Cost: $175. Location: central Kingston.
As usual, the course will feature my individualized approach within a group, emphasizing expanding your horizons, your vision, and the skills needed to follow your own creative road. And of course we will all be inspired by each other’s work, learning from one another—including me from all of you. But you must know the basics of your SLR camera: aperture/depth of field, exposure times, white balance, ISO, etc. Maximum 10 students.
Please contact me (see contact page). Further advanced courses and private classes are also offered, upon request.
